COCA LEAVES
Coca leaves come from the coca bush (Erythroxylum coca), a plant native to South America, particularly cultivated in the Andes. They are traditionally chewed by local populations for their stimulating effects, helping to combat fatigue, hunger and altitude. They contain alkaloids, including cocaine, but in much lower doses than the processed drug. Also used as an infusion (mate de coca), they have medicinal properties, notably digestive and energizing.

1. Chewing - “Acullico"
Traditional use in South America, particularly in the Andes.
The leaves are placed in the mouth with an alkaline substance (such as sodium bicarbonate or vegetable ash) to facilitate absorption.
